— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Expressions of Nature Submissions Open, Sue Auriemma, Juror

Exhibition November- December 2026 at the Blithewold Carriage House, Blithewold Manor and Gardens, 101 Ferry Road (Rt. 114), Bristol, Rhode Island, 02809 (map).

Artist Reception is November 15th, 1-3 pm. All artist their guest are encouraged to attend.

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Blithewold’s designation as an arboretum, the Newport Photo Guild presents Expressions of Nature, an exhibition celebrating the enduring beauty, diversity, and resilience of the natural world.

Plants shape our landscapes and enrich our lives. From towering trees to delicate grasses, from cultivated gardens to wild growth along a roadside, botanicals mark the passage of time and the changing seasons. They reach, unfurl, root, bloom, wither, and return. Through their forms, textures, colors, and cycles, we witness renewal, adaptation, fragility, resilience, and quiet strength.

This exhibition invites photographers to explore, interpret, and celebrate the many expressions of nature. Images may capture sweeping landscapes, intimate botanical studies, intricate details, or the interplay between plants and their environments. Photographs may embrace documentary realism, abstract compositions, or conceptual interpretations that reveal new ways of seeing the natural world.

Color or black-and-white images, as well as traditional and experimental photographic techniques, are welcome. Whether your work highlights the grandeur of an ancient tree, the elegance of a single blossom, or the unexpected beauty found in nature's smallest details, we invite you to share your unique vision and celebrate the remarkable diversity of the botanical world.

“Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.”

Exhibit Juried by Sue Auriemma

Susan Hampton Auriemma, a native of Aquidneck Island, is a commercial and fine art photographer. Susan’s commercial work focuses on interiors and food photography but her true joy is being by the ocean with camera in hand.  Growing up steps from the shore, she has an intuitive connection to the waves and water.. Through ICM (intentional camera movement), Susan strives to create pieces of art that feel more like a painting than a photograph and to bring the tranquility of being near the ocean into homes.

Susan’s artwork has been featured in solo exhibitions at Cusp Gallery, Blink Gallery, and Design House, and in numerous group exhibitions including those at Providence Art Club, YJ Contemporary, Art Talk, and DeBlois Gallery. Her work has also been selected for multiple exhibitions by Juniper Rag, where she received the Curator’s Choice Award twice. In addition to her fine art practice, Susan’s photography has been published in Hamptons Magazine, Chatham Living Magazine, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.  Susan is an active member of the Newport Artists Collective and works to connect artists in the Newport community and bring art enthusiasts together with local artists.o
