Jan Armor is an art photographer and educator professionally engaged for over thirty years.  Jan’s art is exceedingly broad themed, encompassing everything from intimate family portraits to expansive landscapes to abstract images.  He is also an experienced teacher in a wide range of camera equipment and techniques.  A quote from Jan’s web page http://www.armorphoto.com/ nicely sums up his attitude:  “I love the medium as much now as I did when I was a teen. I have a seeking eye. I love motion; I also love symmetry.  I love color and contrast: black and white, sharp and soft, happy and sad.  I love thoughtfulness and intention.  I love the effort to communicate something profound through photography.”

Jan and his wife, Kathy, spent several years as volunteers at the Mathewson Street United Methodist Church in Providence. They were just two of the many people on Sunday mornings who fed and clothed those in need. While helping with whatever was needed in the moment, Jan usually had his camera close at hand.  After a while he realized that besides the hot meal, what many of these folks really wanted was a listening ear and a little friendship.  Jan’s camera helped with that and provided those in need an opportunity to tell their story with dignity.
