PROGRAMS: 2007-2008 Schedule

  • 19 September 2007 -- a new year, and a GREAT kickoff meeting with world-famous Onne van der Wal, Canon Explorer of Light.

  • 3 October 2007 -- Members' Night and an informal wine-and-cheese (and soft drinks) opportunity to get together and just catch up! Pot luck desired!

  • 24 October 2007 -- a Members' Night with an expanded opportunity to show your work and see what some others have been up to over the summer.

  • 14 November 2007 -- Ray Guillette, professional photographer.

  • 19 December 2007 -- The Newport PhotoGuild Annual Holiday Party was a great success! Many thanks to Sylvia and Don Hampton, who graciously hosted the party.

  • 16 January 2008 -- "Gear Night" Thanks so much to all who participated.

  • 20 February 2008 -- Renowned local photographer, John Corbett. In addition to being an outstanding wedding and event photographer, John is an avid scenic photographer and will present a slide show of both his event and scenic work and will also show examples of his stunning large format prints.

  • 19 March 2008 -- NEWPORT ART MUSEUM PHOTO GUILD SPECIAL PRESENTATION 2008 -- A rare public appearance by Rowland Scherman, noted Life Magazine and free lance photo journalist from the ‘50s and ‘60s. His portfolio reads like a who’s who of political and entertainment figures – Bobby Kennedy, LBJ, Barbara Walters, Jimmy Hoffa, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, Judy Collins, the Beatles (first US tour), and many, many more. Rowland shared images and stories from an era when all a good photo journalist needed was “…a camera, a roll of film, good timing, and no press pass..."

  • 16 April 2008 -- Matting, Framing, Mounting and Exhibiting: Panel Discussion with Gallery Owners and Framers, including Rag and Bone. Thanks to our panelists for a very informative evening.

  • 21 May 2008: THE SEE OF CREATIVITY* by Ray Guillette, MNEC** *
    "The SEE of Creativity" is an illustrated discussion of creativity and abstract photography, designed to help photographers see
    their own unique images, and work toward a personal style. Techniques for producing abstract images and creative montages are explained. Ray Guillette is an active member of The Photographic Society of New England as well as the New England Camera Club and presents instructive programs on a regular basis.

  • June 2008: Our Annual Members Show just getting better and better. We intend to have a meeting as well.

  • 18 June 2008 -- Please join two of our very talented members - JAN ARMOR and FEDERICO SANTI - as they present highly compelling and diverse multi-media shows. Please also keep in mind that we will be holding our annual election of officers at that meeting. AND, don't forget the opening reception for the members show on Thursday, June 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. This year's show promises to set new standards and we hope to be able to share it with as many members and their guests as possible.

  • 20 July 2008: Newport PhotoGuild Summer Picnic for members, their spouses and/or significant others, and potential members. Celebrate the conclusion of a really great year for the PhotoGuild!
